Being involved in a car accident can make a visit to your Nashville chiropractor a necessity when it comes to pain relief from any spine-related issues. However, a new study also reveals that engaging in treatment with a holistic-based provider (which is what most chiropractors are) may be just as essential to your mental health too – especially if you have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD.
Research and What It Revealed
In a recent study published in the Journal of Rheumatology, researchers looked at data from 173 auto injury victims who sustained whiplash from car accidents and 207 others who had received relatively minor injuries in their crashes. These participants were assessed one year after their accidents to determine their quality of life and what the researchers found was surprising.
Approximately half of the patients felt that they had not fully recovered since the accident and that the pain was affecting their performance and level of happiness. Furthermore, individuals with PTSD fared the worst, both in regard to the pain they felt and their overall quality of life.
